A sharp portrait photo from the front, evenly lit and with a plain background. Ideally, the face should be large and centered in the image.

Blurry or very dark photos, strong shadows on the face, and photos taken from far away.

Sunglasses, headwear, or hair falling across the face make the line portrait more difficult.

Less is more: A single face, large and centered in the image, produces the clearest lines. The calmer the background, the more refined the portrait looks.
